A university in England has built a virtual campus in Second Life in order to host a 3D open house. Liverpool Hope University aims to attract students from across the world as it opens the doors of its virtual campus. The virtual open house, taking place on Wednesday, has been planned as part of a six month project by third year BA Media students.
The open house will provide potential students with an opportunity to view existing and fictional buildings as well as interact with current students acting as tour guides. The participating students will create 3D avatars to welcome students and answer questions.
Following the open house, Hope's virtual campus will return to an invite-only basis.

While we are way beyond the days of touring colleges to determine where we might apply, we think this is a great concept and very effective use of a 3D virtual platform such as Second Life.
3Dwalkthroughs.com will soon be launching 3D Virtual Venues which will be focused on creating imagninative and useful venues such as Liverpools 3D open house.
