Here's a piece of 3D news on the lighter side. Gizmoz, a social expression and user-generated media service, today announced an agreement with AOL to allow users of the AIM service, the largest instant messaging community in the U.S., to create 3D, talking Gizmoz characters to personalize their messages.
Simply upload a personal photograph or select characters and accessories from an extensive library of costumes, hair, makeup and more. Gizmoz has already animated nearly 50 trigger words, such as "blabla," "ttyl," "rbay" and "brb." Gizmoz characters react and behave according to the expressions typed within the message window.

3Dwalkthroughs.com is interested in this news as we believe customizable avatars will be a big part of the virtual venue experience in the near future. With 3D technology constantly improving and 3D environments becoming more realistic, it only seems logical that the demand for avatars representing users to be more realistic as well. I suppose customizable avatars are a mixed blessing..all we need is another place to feel self-conscious.
